Herb of the Week: Mugwort

Mugwort is heavily used by many people and has been a medicinal source for ages. It properties are so powerful and healing, it's a shame if you don't have some lying around your home somewhere within reach.

MEDICINAL PROPERTIES: Known for treating epilepsy, as well as labor pains, chronic stomach conditions, and poor appetites. It is said that if you rub the juices of the stems of Mugwort over your skin before hiking or venturing off into a wood full of poison oak, it will help prevent rashes. Medicinally as well, it is also used to help regulate the menstrual cycle and ease painful menstruation and the onset of menopause. Use in combination with ginger in a tea to soothe difficult menstruation. It has mild sedative and antispasmodic properties.

Mix the dry herb with honey and apply to bruises to fade them.

MAGICKAL PROPERTIES: It is associated with Taurus and Libra, the element of Earth, and the planets Venus and the Moon which give it magickal properties that align well with love, lust, attraction, and sex magick rituals. It is also said to enhance psychic abilities, astral projection, visions, and lucid dreams. If you are a divination practitioner, burn mugwort incense or the herb itself to help open your mind up for messages to come through during the reading.

PROTECTION: Hanging mugwort over or on a door will keep unwelcome energies from passing through. For those who travel, wear mugwort in a sachet around your neck to protect you on your journey. It is said to prevent delays, and other annoyances associated with traveling, as well as to protect the traveler from accidents, thieves and other dangers associated with traveling.

Mugwort can be found at your local herb shop or even online. I prefer personally to get organic herbs at all times to prevent any toxic chemicals or substances being unknowingly used in my magick rituals or teas. So be cautious with where you decide to purchase any and all herbs you choose to use in your practice, and make sure its coming from a legit and caring source.
